Happy Leap Day!!!

By the time this little day comes around again, I'll be 24 and who knows where. Therefore, I decided to take advantage of the unique experience that only comes every four years...Enjoy.

It's Official.

I have now completed my first legit all-nighter of the semester...previously, I've gone to bed at 6 a.m. or something, but I've gotten at least a couple hours of sleep. Nope, not this time - the evil paper fairies stole my precious hours of slumber! I set up camp at a desk in our computer room BUT here's the miracle - I worked the ENTIRE time! That never happens! That is the scary part, though - that it took so long! After occasionally snacking on oatmeal, refilling my water, and pausing for bathroom breaks, I then started my day with a tutorial, attended our fortnightly chapel, had tea with my college afterward, then wrote my paper some more until 5:30 pm! 3,778 words and 11 pages later, I have FREEDOM! And yet...

I've now been awake for nearly 33 hours straight.

Eat, read some Screwtape Letters, sleep. Repeat! :)

Pancake Day in England!

Happy Pancake Day! (aka Shrove Tuesday :)

As I wandered around the local Sainsbury's (a supermarket here), I realized pancake mix, Nutella, honey, flour, etc. were all on sale for "Pancake Day" on Tues. the 21st. Today is the day before Ash Wednesday, and since pancakes have many of the ingredients that are not permitted during Lent in the Orthodox church, England and many other European Countries have a Pancake Day to indulge before fasting. I actually have not had a pancake today, but perhaps that will change by tonight :)

I'm busy writing away on my Narnia paper still, and it's a double this week, so I have to write 4,000 words rather than the usual 2,000. It's such an interesting topic, though, and I'm really enjoying reading C.S. Lewis, so it's great!

Tonight, the Richard Dawkins Foundation is putting on an event at Magdalen College (pronounced "Maudlin", AND the college at Oxford that C.S. Lewis was a fellow of :) that invites four notable academics, two Christians and two atheists that are in the field of philosophy and science, to discuss different ideas about life and the universe. It's called "Think About Knowledge: Life, the Universe and Everything, a Quest for Truth." I'm really excited to see how it all goes, and what an amazing opportunity to attend something like this at Oxford! I'll give an update to tell you how it goes.

Well, I've just had afternoon tea with the other students in the program, and now it's back to writing a paper!

Oh! By the way, if you want to take a break, you should watch this. I really like the original a lot better, but this is pretty sweet how they covered this :) Enjoy!
